Sorry for the lack of updates. I just came back from a 10-day trip to Europe with the Vans crew and the photo above pretty much defines my last few weeks. It’s been a marathon. The photo was taken from the back of a cab in New York—our last stop of the trip.

You learn a lot about yourself when you travel and I always find that it’s always inspiring to visit places that I’ve never been to before. I met so many cool people along the way and I’m glad that I able to take some time to catch up with some old friends that have recently moved to Brooklyn. More updates coming soon. I hope the six of you who actually visit this blog aren’t too bummed. For now, enjoy this. And maybe this?

Earlier today, I headed to the Tortoise General Store to attend their woodcarving class. Clear skies, low 70′s with just the right breeze—it was the perfect way to end the long week. Over the course of 3-hours, I learned the basics of woodcarving from Yo Takimoto, a master woodcarver from Yokohama. The guy next to me made a spoon. And I ended up making what looked like a flipper-less sea lion. Throughout the workshop, Yo reminded us that there were, “No rules. Just follow your heart”.

Yeah, it was that kind of weekend.

From wire-based shell chairs by Charles and Ray Eames, to printed textiles by Barney Reid, the LACMA’s current exhibition, California Design, 1930–1965- “Living in a Modern Way”, celebrates the work of California’s standout designers of the Mid-Century.

It had been a while since I’ve taken my parents out and being the vintage hoarders collectors that they are, I thought that they might’ve enjoyed this exhibition. And they did. My dad is a huge pottery collector and was quick to nudge me whenever he spotted any Heath pieces along the way. And as a proud owner of a few Barney Reid textile prints, he was happy to see that some of his garage sale finds shared similar names with the LACMA. You did well, dad.
