Last night’s release of the Todd Bratrud “Brain Wreck” Dunk was a success. If you missed snagging a pair of Nike x Todd Bratrud Dunk Hi SB – Brain Wreck you are just in luck. Artist Todd Bratrud will be selling  50 pairs of his personal stock of his third design with Nike following up to the release of the “Send Helps” and “Bratrud” at the legendary shoe shop Blends July 22^nd during Comic Con. Proceeds from the sales will benefit The Keep A Breast Foundation. The capsule sale will feature the dunk-hi with grey suede/fuschia santeen tongue, brain stitch lining, and Brain Wreck written on the back heel and will be paired with a comprehensive packaging execution for the first 49 buyers, and one raffle winner.

The July 22^nd Sale of Bratrud’s personal stock will be paired with a large number of relevant accessories with a Brain Wreck motif. Each set will come with a custom designed skateboard with Brain Wreck graphic that will include a Todd Bratrud mini print that is signed and numbered by the artist with matching Brain Wreck grey terry headband and special “organ transport cooler” to hold your shoes or your next six pack.

The Brain Wreck packages will be available for purchase on July 22^nd from 6pm to 9pm at Blends in San Diego during which Keep A Breast will have a custom breast cast painted by Bratrud on display from Micki Krimmel a well established writer and blogger whose online and print publications including Wired Magazine, SXSW World and Oprah Magazine.  Joining in the celebration is Honest Tea and Miho GastroTruck as well as an afterparty at El Dorado Bar with All Things Rad DJs Profile and DJ Iron.

Raffle tickets will be available for a $5 donation in stores and online starting July 9^th. Today marks the first year of this blog. I pretty much started this thing with no real concept. The only rule that I set for myself was to post an unfiltered influx of things I see, hear and like. Basically, a sort of creative, dot-connector that you can possibly use to kill time during your lunch breaks. In retrospect, I kind of wish that I had chosen a different name for this blog… because in reality, this blog is about the people, places and ideas that make up its content and has very little to do about me on a personal level.

Thanks again for your time. The internet should be taken lightly. This is just a blog. Use accordingly. Cheers for plenty more years to come.

Dear industrial designers, sometimes I want to plug in a lamp behind my bed, but I can’t do that if the connector sticks out two inches off my wall. From now on, please make all electronic devices (especially lighting units!) with flattened connectors to make them less obtrusive. Belkin did a great job in the image above. Please take note. Everything else is great though. I love the iPhone.

There will always be an appreciation for printed matter, but alas, interactive media through audio-podcasts and video-clips add another dimension to the way we see, think and now hear our daily news. Before actually getting a chance to run through its collection of applications, my opinion of Apple’s iPad was definitely similar to that of many of my colleagues… it’s nice, but essentially just a larger version of the iPod Touch.

After spending about an hour with the iPad, I’ve come to conclude that its usability lies somewhere in between an iPhone and a MacBook. It allows its user to take advantage of its portability (try surfing on a MacBook in a crowded subway) without loosing the visual branding of the content that so often gets lost within the micro-dimensions of the iPhone. At the same time, this isn’t a word-processing machine. It wasn’t designed for that. It’s designed to be the best way to experience the web, email, photos and video. And it follows through.

During my short rendezvous with the iPad, I encountered some of the minor bugs associated with the Flash-based sites that I visited; but like everything else in technology, things get fixed. Also, a built-in camera would be nice for its next-gen version. In time, we’ll definitely get the chance to experience the media prowess of the iPad as more media outlets begin to adopt it’s format. Death to print? Maybe not just yet. A new tangent for media? Most definitely. At the end of the day, it’s the content that really matters.

For now, I’ll just take some time and enjoy my iPad Nano iPhone 3GS

Willy’s Workshop in San Diego has been a huge lobbying force behind Mira Mesa’s skate park proposal to the City of San Diego. Long overdue, the skate park would be beneficial for the Mira Mesa Mesa community (especially for the youth!) but with the economic crisis across the local, state, and national levels, plans to proceed with the skate park have been put on hold. Next week, Willy’s Workshop will be holding a fundraiser at Happy Sushi. If you cant make it, feel free to visit miramesaskatepark.org and see how you can contribute. Raise awareness!
