Over the weekend, I finally got my copy of Ryohei Suita’s “Green Neighborhood”. I ordered this book last Sunday at the Kinokuniya Bookstore in Beaverton and it arrived just 4 days later. That’s 4 days door-to-door from Japan! Not bad.

Mainly focusing on Portland’s Pearl District, the book lends itself as a case study on how Portland’s residents, private companies and government all worked together to turn a neglected warehouse district into a livable, green-minded community.

Within the book, Suita spotlights some of the Pearl’s local businesses including Barista, the Ace Hotel and Wieden+Kennedy — all of which are housed within retrofitted buildings from the early 20th Century.
