Shop visit: Mccallum Surfboards. Handmade in San Diego, CA

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Jeff Mccallum’s newly opened shop in Pacific Beach. My friend Keith was picking up a board he had purchased and recommended that I come along and check it out. After doing some research, Jeff has made boards for some of the most respected surfers today. Joel Tudor, Harrison Roach and Tony Alva are a few of the riders that he has shaped boards for.

Just a few weeks old, Mccallum Surfboards is an appointment only shop and has already pushed a steady stream of sales out of its 100 sf space. Ultimately, the shop is pretty much a mini museum of whatever Jeff wants to make at his shaping garage—except that in this museum, you can buy stuff. Total DIY.

Mccallum Surfboards, lies deep within an alleyway off of Emerald Ct and Mission Boulevard. As you hop over pizza boxes and move recycling bins aside, you’ll see the metal sign above marking the shop’s entrance. Trust me, it’s there. For those that live back east, you can find some of his boards at Saturdays NYC.
