The Allure of the Automobile at the Portland Art Museum
August 16, 2011For the next two months, The Allure of the Automobile exhibition with be on display at the Portland Art Museum. With vehicles on display from both the Art Moderne and Post-war eras, the show is an exploration of automotive design and engineering of the 20th century. Much like my trip to the Wally Lewis auction a few months ago, the show definitely added a handful of grails within my mental bucket-list of cars to buy.
For me, it was the 1958 Toyota “Toyopet” Crown and the 1961 Ferrari 250GT that stole the show. Both from the Post-war era of the show. Vehicles from the Art Moderne selections dominated the second half of the show and although nice, these weren’t really my style. Much thanks to my friend Brian who was able to spare an extra ticket.
Show ends September 11th. Visit portlandartmuseum.org for more info.
