Designer Oscar de la Renta has said, “More than anyone else in the city, he has the whole visual history of the last 40 or 50 years of New York. It’s the total scope of fashion in the life of New York.”

Whoever does the buying here really has a keen eye in finding well-designed items for your every day living. I don’t think there was a single item in this store that I didn’t want. By simply canvasing through the shop, you can tell that Canoe’s inventory really focuses on putting design first. Every item seems to fit in its right place along with the next. I may never need that bottle of cutting board oil, but I may just pick it up because I like the packaging. It was hard to walk away without making a purchase—so I bought a whistle. Deal with it.
