Brunch at Slappy Cakes
October 24, 2010I’m pretty sure that there are a ton of great places to get breakfast here in Portland. What I’m not sure of is whether or not most of them are as good as Slappy Cakes. After spending all of our money at the Nike Employee Store, we had all built up quite an appetite for some good ol’ American Cusine. Brought attention to by Alexander Barrett, fellow WK12er—and all-around awesome dude—he suggested that we try this spot out.
Much like the Turf Club in San Diego, you have the choice of cooking your own food, but instead of steaks, here you have pancakes. Located right off of Belmont and 42nd, Slappy Cakes is only open for breakfast and lunch. Its gets pretty crowded here, so be sure to make it here early enough before they close.
I had the pleasure of enjoying their Forest Mushroom Scramble—a hearty mix of spinach, leeks, crispy bacon lardoons and locally harvested mushrooms. Topped off with goat cheese, the plate also comes with a side of toast and fried potatoes.
