On my desk: Christmas Island 7″ and Inventory Magazine

Christmas Island S/T 7" via Captured Tracks

Last night, I was planning on seeing Christmas Island play a warehouse show just down the street form my apartment, but as soon I got to there, I noticed that I forgot my wallet. No problem. Getting to my apartment, I noticed that my wallet was there but my drivers license was missing. Then and there I remembered that I had left it with my tax preparer just two hours earlier. Damn. So everyone in town for ASR that I said that I was going to hang out with last night, apologies. Ended up staying home with my pre-21 years old rights. Bummer.

Anyway, here are some of the things that I picked up while I was in LA last Tuesday. Above is Christmas Island’s Self Titled 7-inch (Captured Tracks) that I had purchased at Origami Vinyl. A great record. Go buy it. Below, is Ryan Willms’ Inventory Magazine that I bought at Craft. Only 5,000 copies printed. Curated well and designed well. Highly recommended.

Groundhog day in Los Angeles

Tacos Along the Highway 101

I had the day off of work today and decided drive up to the lovely city of Los Angeles. A great time indeed. It’s always cool to see new places and reconnect with old ones. And described in a Twitteresque rant, my day went as followed; LA’s Raid Projects to pick up Neill Orje, Visited Origami Vinyl in Echo Park for the first time, Mad traffic on Sunset Blvd, Fairfax Ave, Melrose Ave, La Brea Ave and Eating Jumbalaya for the first time at the Farmer’s Market.

On the way up, we made our first stop just 20 minutes into the trip and grabbed some food along the historical Highway 101. In spite of the coastal overcast, it was pretty warm outside. Nothing like a great lobster burrito with a view like this. Life is good sometimes.

A day in LA wouldn’t be complete without visiting Neill Orje. He had moved into a new studio within the Raid Projects complex and was working on his latest piece that he says would take him well through most of the year. Neill was recently featured within the Design Log of LA’s respected design firm, Commune — who coincidentally, just a few weeks ago, opened up their second Community Shop at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs.

Origami Vinyl in Echo Park is rad. This is Sean manning the fort. I picked up Christmas Island’s Self Titled 7-inch release on Captured Tracks. Vinyl records are fun!

And around the corner there was a wall. And it was a magenta wall.
