Neon Jesus in Los Angeles
November 23, 2009Last Thursday, I headed up to Los Angeles with a couple of friends to visit Neill Orje. He’s currently one of the resident artists over at Raid Projects, located at the Brewery Art Complex. The trip became much more of an impromptu eating marathon with a few stops here and there. It had been a while since I’ve seen JR and Cecile (and anyone else!) so it was a good time catching up with them in between bites.
Keith (The Hundreds) had recently moved to the Reserve Lofts in Downtown LA, and while JR and Cecile went to watch the Bulls/Lakers game, the rest of us made a quick visit to check out Keith’s new place. The building, designed by Parkinson & Parkinson, was at one time, the Federal Reserve Bank (hence the name!). A few years ago, there were literally mountains of cash running through this very building. We actually tried breaking into the vault at the bottom floor to see if there were any stacks left. Nope, failed. On the way back home, I saw this Giant piece staring right at me under a busy underpass. Still watching in all its glory.
