KAWS C10: The Paintings of KAWS. Publish by Neverstop. 2002

Yesterday afternoon, I found myself at the [Alexander] Calder Jewelry Exhibition held at the San Diego Museum of Art. Upon initial approach, it was really hard to tell that the work was made by the same hands behind the mobiles that most of us relate him to. Across the hall, the museum featured Calder’s more recognizable brushwork alongside paintings by Picasso and Joan MirĂ³. Personally, I’m much more the fan of some of the later-mentioned works.

I went to the museum’s bookshop (bad idea) just to look. Lo and behold, I run into KAWS’s C10. The book has been long sold out and here it was, 7 years after being published, waiting to be bought. There were so many jewels in this bookstore. I’ll definitely be back.

The book is a cardboard showcase of various animated icons including Astroboy, Michelin and the Simpsons (Kimpsons); all painted in KAWS form. It was published by Alex Calderwood’s Neverstop Agency, the same group to bring you the Ace Hotel and Rudy’s Barbershop chains.
