Jack Pierson is a multi-medium artist known mainly for his photography and typographical compositions. These are some of his newer pieces shown at LA’s Regen Projects. His latest installation, The Show Must Go On, is currently on display at the Grand Palais Museum in Paris. Some of you may recognize his work with Japanese fashion label, SOPHNET.
Minnesota native, Todd Bratrud is an artist and self proclaimed “Bad Ass” known for his illustrations of scantily clad female types (is it wrong to be attracted to a lizard woman?). With most of his work revolving around skateboarding, his client list includes Creature, Nike, Enjoi and Consolidated Skateboards to name a few. The images shown are of some of his available prints (click the images dude). A great gift for your mother-in-law.
The images that photographer David Dobson used for these Stussy ads definitely capture the free spirited nature of their philosophy. This is good, fun and memorable branding.
Spent the day up in Los Angeles to check out the Raid Projects Group Show where Neill Orje has his recently completed Afloat piece on display. Neill walked us through the Raid Projects commune where he will be staying for their Artist in Residency program. The space is located just east of Downtown LA; in an industrial district amongst a sea of lofts, studios and galleries.
Back in San Diego, I ended the night at Hamilton’s for a few pints of Alpine Brewery’s, Pure Hoppiness. Hamilton’s Tavern is currently celebrating their 3rd anniversary and had a commemorative ale on tap. Didn’t get to try it though. SDFixed was there too.
A few years ago, I stumbled upon Little More Publishing’s ‘Kaws One’ at the now defunct Asahiya Bookstore (in San Diego) while it was in transition of becoming Sanseido Bookstore. During its last week, every book was being cleared out at a heavy discount. Only paid 19 dollars! Also on my desk, a signed copy of ‘Rigormortis Smile’, by lowbrow king and founder of Juxtapoz Magazine, Robert Williams. It’s over 20 years old and still holding well.
Below is a photo of PEARL HARB☮R at last night’s show at the Whistle Stop. The lead signer is an amazing dancer. Loved it. Their Something About the Chaparrals LP is available now as an MP3 and will releasing soon on vinyl via Mexican Summer. I missed most of Dunes, but they were pretty cool too.
My good friend Neill Orje has recently earned his way into Raid Projects’ highly regarded Artist In Residency Program. For the next couple of months, he’ll be spending his time painting between the walls of Raid Projects art space. Here, he will get to share his work with curators, critics and collectors from around the world.
This weekend, Orje’s “Afloat” will be part of the Raid Projects Group Show located at The Brewery Art Complex in Los Angeles. 2100 N. Main St., #A-9, Los Angeles, CA 90031.
Tonight’s BLENDS x Converse 1HUND(RED) release was a success. My camera’s battery died two photos into the night (FAIL!). But… I’m sure that I’ll be able to fetch a few photos before the weekend begins. Thankyou to everyone who came out. It was a good turnout. And let’s not forget the cause that we all came out for. Good times. JULZ… thanks for playing Slum Village. Receptions will also be held at the Costa Mesa and Los Angeles locations (October 23rd and 24th respectively).
